What is TITAN computer?

TITAN is a combination of PC hardware and software designed to meet the needs of most PC users at an affordable price. The Operating System we chose enables us to use a processor that consumes low energy and an economical memory that can still run fifteen applications simultaneously. In addition, TITAN computers include a quality sound system, high-resolution graphics processor and a network connection using either a physical Ethernet cable or wireless WiFi. The Operating System installed in our computer is compatible with Windows XP user interface and is called TITAN LEV (Linux Extended Version) – this is a special version of Linux, which is based on Ubuntu 8.04.  After extensive research, we adapted and installed the most suitable hardware components and selected the software applications that provide the best response to our clients’ needs.  We bring you an out of the box plug-and-play computer and all you need to do is connect it to power and network and start using it for all your PC tasks.  The installed software programs are all open source - royalty free, and include an automatic update mechanism, at no extra cost, to ensure you are always using the latest version of any software program.

TITAN LEV is a convenient and economical combination of an Operating System that performs like Microsoft Windows but requires only 25% of the memory and CPU resources necessary to run Windows Vista and a software suite that enables the execution of all the applications commonly used on a PC. This means that our computer requires only one quarter the computing resources required by a computer running Windows Vista and achieve higher performance!

The result is a reliable computer that provides excellent performance and capable of running a wide range of applications simultaneously, at less than 33% the cost of computer plus software running Microsoft Windows in a Vista environment.

•   The browser includes built in safe browsing solution from Google, which automatically informs you of malicious sites and advises you to stay away from them.

To select the most suitable TITAN solution for your environment, you need to define your needs.  We recommend selecting your computer based on the following guidelines:

1.      Desktop computer - This is the common solution when you need a computer at your desk, at home or in your office.  This type of computer is installed in one location and there is no intention of moving it from place to place.

2.      Laptop computer - This is an ideal solution if you need the computer on-the-go, in more than one place. The screen is typically smaller than a desktop, but it enables you to easily take it with you and use it everywhere you go. 

•  Similar user interface: main menu, status bar, windows and shortcuts
• Identical file format = full compatibility with Office, graphics, multimedia and web.  You can receive and edit a file from Windows and you can send a file to a Windows based PC
•  TITAN is supplied with Open Office pre-installed.  For a small fee it is possible to order TITAN with a version of MS Office pre-installed.
• Full incorporation into a network of Windows PC’s and printers
• You can see Windows PC’s in the network, open files on Windows PC’s and they can see you and open files on your TITAN PC
• You can print onto a network printer connected to a Windows PC
• It is possible to operate Windows and DOS programs on TITAN
• You may use either Firefox or Internet Explorer for web browsing
• For email you may choose either Outlook or Outlook express compatible programs.  Attached letters and files are compatible.  Using our Outlook express compatible program enables you to schedule meetings on a TITAN PC and they will look the same on a Windows PC running Outlook express

Al programs are open source – royalty free and include automatic updates via the internet  

Why did Linux-based solutions fail in the past?

·         Users who were used to Windows were required to get used to a new Operating System that looked and performed differently and much time was wasted in getting used to the new system

·         File sharing over networked computers was unsatisfactory – a Linux based computer could not open a file on a Windows PC

·         Web browsing was not fully compatible – some internet websites don’t support Firefox and without Internet Explorer, some web pages could not be accessed

·          Compatibility with MS Office was lacking – files that were created in MS Office could not be opened in Open Office

·         Compatibility with multimedia formats (codecs) was partial at best – many formats were not supported by Linux

·         Users who were used to a certain application could not find a suitable Linux replacement.  There are about 23,000 open source programs.  Finding and installing the right program takes time, expertise and experience

All of these problems are solved in TITAN

Is Linux Ubuntu a better solution than using an old version of Windows?

Absolutely!  Old versions of Windows Operating Systems and their associated applications are not updated the way TITAN LEV Operating System and its programs get updated.  You will face problems that were solved in later Windows versions and will not find the technical support that might or might not be able to help you fix them. You will visit web sites that will not be supported by your browser, or new video formats are not supported and worst of all, you will be vulnerable to many security attacks. TITAN LEV is always up-to-date since new versions will automatically update your existing software as they are released. You will also find our technical support staff available to solve any problem that might come up.   

What to do when I need to run a Windows application?

Most applications have a compatible replacement in TITAN.  In rare cases, when a user needs to run a specific Windows program, it is possible to run most Windows programs through a dedicated Windows enabler that is provided as standard with every TITAN PC.
